~~ [1/3] Imposter Syndrome: University as an “in-betweener” ~~ . . ••• 🔑 Happy Monday friends! This week I want to talk about (and hopefully normalize) my experiences with imposter syndrome. The way I define imposter syndrome is when one constantly and repeatedly doubts the legitimacy of their accomplishments and is worried that they don’t deserve to belong or succeed. ••• 🔑 I graduated university as a bioinformatics major & business minor. This is a multi-disciplinary major covering coursework in biology, physics, computer science. As impressive as it all sounds, a huge drawback was that no particular discipline was taught in depth. So even though we were exposed to career path options in biology, bioengineering, business, genomics, and computer science, it never felt like we were fully prepared for any of them. ••• 🔑 About halfway through college, I decided that I wanted to pursue computer science professionally. By then, I found that the computer science majors had already made personal websites and portfolios and participated in hackathons, you name it. As I applied to summer internships and jobs, there was always a nagging feeling in my gut that I was not good enough due to a crippling lack of these “necessities.” ••• 🔑 But guess what I learned? I may have lacked a personal website, but the leadership skills and business acumen I gained through putting together bioengineering day with the department leads helped me portray myself better during interviews. And the biology courses gave me a domain knowledge edge when pursuing technical roles at biotech/healthcare companies. ••• 🔑 I found that that the same cookie-cutter path won’t work for every person - so why measure my progress against their paths? Tell me - what was your first exposure to imposter syndrome?
the ocean does not apologize for its depth and the mountains do not seek forgiveness for the space they take and so, neither shall I. @beccaleepoetry

Quarantine cocktail hour: the plot twist where you become your own bartender. Pull out all the *fancy* glassware, light a few candles, & mentally imagine your own personal mariachta band. Change out of the leggings you’ve been wearing the last week (yes i’m looking to you 👀 ) - Cause you know what? You can still be a classy quarantined betch. Today #ontheblog I'm sharing my favorite blood orange margarita recipe! 🍹#cheers #happyhour
