Please sign the petition if you agree that our planet doesn't need any more plastic manufacturers. The Sunshine Project, a 9.4 billion dollar, 2,500 acre travesty is set to begin operating by 2029. They have been approved by Louisiana regulators to emit 13.6 million tons of CO2 each year... more than any other US industrial facility has reported since 2011. In 2020, we should be working to reduce and remove plastic from our environment, not add more. According to SAS.co.uk, 8 million pieces of plastic pollution enter the ocean every day. Plastic can take centuries to biodegrade, and recycling has proven to be a inefficient solution. There are many renewable, degradable materials we could replace plastic with, but because plastic manufacturing profits oil companies, it’s a very challenging battle to face. A battle that we consistently have lost because money can buy lobbyists, and lobbyists influence legislation. But that's no reason to give up. We must work together to stop the construction of The Sunshine Project. Louisiana regulators: we do not want your facility on our planet. Please sign if you agree. “Catastrophic” oil spill near Norilsk, in the Russian Arctic, has seen 20,000 tons of diesel spilled onto the Siberian tundra and released into the river. "The incident led to catastrophic consequences and we will be seeing the repercussions for years to come," Sergey Verkhovets, coordinator of Arctic projects of Russia's WWF branch, said in a statement. "We are talking about dead fish, polluted plumage of birds, and poisoned animals,” for thousands of square miles. The accident was not reported for two days, and the Putin administration learned about it, wait for it, on social media! Norilsk has been historically among one of the world's most polluted cities. According to a 2018 NASA study based on satellite data, Norilsk tops the list for worst sulphur dioxide pollution, spewing 1.9 million tons of the gas over the Arctic tundra. This spill is believed to result from the melting of the permafrost, the frozen ground on which these diesel reserves rested. Given the remoteness and inaccessibility from traditional transportation, it will take weeks for this disaster to be adequately addressed. Is this not a scenario which has been raised for the general exploitation of oil in the high Arctic? On the ice, this problem gets exponential. It is time to switch to renewables, or consider this tragedy the opening act of a long play. • • • • • #oilspill #russia #environment #sustainability #oilindustry #permafrost #renewableenergy #leaveitintheground #fossilfuels #solar #wind #energy #zeroemmissions #arctic #siberia #putin #norilsk #co2 #sulphurdioxide #greennewdeal

Which is better between biofuels and fossil fuels? . Biofuels can have a smaller impact than fossil fuels if we consider the consumption of the fuel only, but when taking in account production, biofuels can actually be worse than fossil fuels in some cases! . Biofuel is made from organic material. It can be made from crops, wood or organic waste. . Fossil fuels like oil, gas or coal are formed by geological processes over long periods of time and stored deep underground. . We have to look at each stage of the fuel lifecycle to understand the full impact of each fuel. . Production stage: . Biofuel is made from organic materials (crops, trees, etc.) which capture CO2 while they grow, whereas fossil fuels don't. . However, growing crops for biofuel can sometimes have a bigger environmental impact because of the need for land (deforestation), the pressure on water supply, and the pressure on food production (land used for biofuel instead of food production). . For example, palm oil biofuel has a carbon footprint 3x bigger than fossil fuel, due to deforestation. . Consumption stage: . When actually consuming the fuel (in a car, in a plane...), biofuels generate about 2x less CO2 than fossil fuels. . For the same amount of energy created, biofuels generate about 39g of CO2, whereas fossil fuels will generate about 75g of CO2. . What can we do? . There is no magic fuel, we need to reduce our amount of flights, only use cars when necessary, and choose greener ways of transportation like trains or bicycles for short trips. . For your home, switch to a renewable energy provider, instead of using gas or electricity produced from fossil fuels. . “The idea that gas will reduce prices is nonsensical. Gas is the reason power prices are so high along the east coast of Australia. Renewables are the cheapest form of new generation. Cheaper than coal, oil and gas,” said Climate Councillor and energy expert, Greg Bourne. Investing in gas will ensure power prices keep rising, and Australia spews out even more greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to pushing climate change to new and terrifying extremes. #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #ClimateChangeAustralia #Australia #Gas #LNG #FossilFuels #Renewables #RenewableEnergy

We need to be smart about how we stimulate the economy after the #COVID19 crisis, and it's clear that coal power just doesn't make economic sense. Renewable energy, on the other hand, is the cheapest form of new energy generation around the world, and as one of the sunniest and windiest countries on the planet, Australia should be accelerating the switch to renewables. #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #Renewables #RenewableEnergy #FossilFuels #Australia #Solar

‼️LIVE LIKE THIS - RENEWABLE ENERGY‼️⁣ ⁣ "Renewable energy has so far been the energy source most resilient to Covid‑19 lockdown measures. Renewable electricity has been largely unaffected while demand has fallen for other uses of renewable energy. We estimate that total global use of renewable energy will rise by about 1% in 2020. Despite supply chain disruptions that have paused or delayed activity in several key regions, the expansion of solar, wind and hydro power is expected to help renewable electricity generation to rise by nearly 5% in 2020. This growth is smaller than anticipated before the Covid‑19 crisis, however. A faster recovery would have a minimal impact on renewable energy production, though it would enable more new renewables-based projects to be completed. If recovery is slower, renewable energy would still increase, making renewables the energy source the most resilient to the Covid‑19 current crisis."⁣ •⁣ •⁣ Source: iea.org⁣ •⁣ •⁣ ‼️ LIVE LIKE NOT THIS - FOSSIL FUEL‼️⁣ ⁣ Burning gas, coal and oil costs global economy $8bn a day and particularly harms children. Air pollution from burning fossil fuels is responsible for more than 4m premature deaths around the world each year and costs the global economy about $8bn a day, according to a study.⁣ The report, from Greenpeace Southeast Asia and the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, found that burning gas, coal and oil causes three times the number of deaths as road traffic accidents globally.⁣ Children, especially those living in low-income countries, are particularly affected with an estimated 40,000 dying each year before they reach their fifth birthday because of exposure to particulate pollution from fossil fuels.⁣ “Air pollution is a threat to our health and our economies,” said Minwoo Son, clean air campaigner at Greenpeace East Asia.⁣ “Every year, air pollution from fossil fuels takes millions of lives, increases our risk of stroke, lung cancer and asthma, and costs us trillions of dollars."⁣ •⁣ •⁣ Source: theguardian.com ⁣ •⁣ •⁣ ➡️ Which one is winning in 2020 and for the future? ⁣

PRINT — We can only change 2030 if we all demand a change in 2020. That’s the main message that @greenpeace used in their latest campaign to encourage all of us, who care about the planet, to take action. We joined forces with our friends from @ogilvy Hongkong and @ogilvy Shanghai and helped Greenpeace in creating a series of images depicting the devastating results of burning #fossilfuels. We were responsible for the #retouch and making the top and bottom pictures look as authentic and real as possible to emphasize the message behind it. The aim was to draw attention to the topic of air pollution and make us aware that our actions have an enormous impact on the future. #digital #retouch #editing #airpollution #drought #forestfire #smoke #climatechange #climatecrisis #savetheplanet #environment #nature #fossilfuels #productioncompany #ClearAirNow #DemandChangeNow

In 2019, 75% of new electricity capacity created was renewable, breaking an all time record worldwide. . Solar, wind and other green technologies now provide more than one-third of the world’s power, breaking another record. . What does it mean? . It means that in 2019, when building a new electricity facility around the world, 75% of the time this new electricity was created using renewable technology instead of fossil fuels. . In the US and in Europe, there were more fossil fuel power plants decommissioned than built in 2019. . Unfortunately, the number of coal and gas plants grew in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. In the Middle East, which owns half the world’s oil reserves, just 26% of new electricity generation capacity built in 2019 was renewable. . The world has invested about 3 trillion dollars in renewable energy over the past decade, but annual investments must double by 2030 if we want to have a chance to solve the climate crisis. . There are many renewable energy technologies, and they are getting cheaper and cheaper! Wind power, solar power, hydropower, bioenergy, geothermal and marine energy, the future is here! . What can you do to support renewable energy production? . When choosing your energy provider for electricity at home, choose a 100% renewable energy provider. . It is not more expensive! In the UK for example, you can choose providers like Bulb or Tonik. . For more ideas on how to be more eco-friendly, visit our profile and find hundreds of easy eco tips @easyecotips 🌿 .
