I'm spectacularly clumsy. Like tripping while standing still frequently, falling down stairs constantly, breaking glasses in my hands occasionally clumsy. I think this is partly due to ADHD and partly due to dyscalculia. Crap spatial reasoning, poor body awareness, and a brain focusing on everything at once spell disaster for me. And, when I inevitably trip, slip, crash, and spill, my neurotypical friends and family tend to shout, "Careful!" I know it's partly a reflex for them. I know they don't mean to be patronizing. But, when you hear "careful" in the middle of a tumble as often as I do, it really starts to grate on you. Not only is it usually too late for this sage advice to stop my free-fall, but I'm also not intentionally being careless. I'm doing my best here! I don't mean to lose focus or misjudge the space around me. I certainly don't *chose* to take a wrong step or lose my balance. So, please don't tell me to be careful—that doesn't help. Luckily, my partner is actively trying to say it less, and he apologizes when he does say it. basically this sums up my time management struggles.😂 . . for those of you that are unaware time management & getting tasks completed without feeding into the gravitational pull that is the 97 distractions that tempt us is super tough for us adhd peeps. . . . the amount of time I’ve been on the way to put something away in another room while tidying and went down some mammoth rabbit hole of 43 other distractions only to find myself still halfway through making the bed....the struggle is real y’all. 😆 . . . anyways, here’s some handy strategies that have helped me & hopefully might be helpful to you darlings: . . . 1) write it down. yes on actual paper! 📝notepads (visual magnetic ones on the fridge for to dos and shopping lists are game changers) visual is key! 👀 . . 2)buy & use a diary! 📖 write down what you need to do and prioritise a couple things for each day to make things achievable. you’ve got this! 💪🏻 . . 3)use your phones calendar in addition to the diary (that you’re now in the habit of using 😉) to schedule in appointments and things to remember with alerts! ✨💫 . . . 4)tidy home = tidy mind. 🎀 gradually working on clearing out the clutter & treasures you longer need. following that up by giving everything that you do use and love a home and making a conscious effort to return things to their home after each use. this takes practice, patience and consistency but fear not it’s possible to finally have a space that’s orderly and soothing to spend time in. 🏡 . . . & just like that you’re on your way to a calmer, less anxiety filled day! hurrah!❤️ . . . #adhd #adhdexplained #adhdawareness #adhdmemes #adhdwomen #adhdproblems #organised #housewife #reallife #homeorganization #tidyhousetidymind #getitdone #timemanagement #todolist #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #anxiety #anxietysupport #add #support #youcandoit #yesyoucan #onefootinfrontoftheother #success #organisedlife #organising #tidy #tidyingup

Climbing the motivation ladder doesn’t come as easy to the ADHD brain as it does for a neurotypical one. The rungs on our ladder have gaps and some are broken or unstable. We WANT to climb the ladder just as much as anyone else but the steps are just out of reach. Sometimes we just have to go about our methods for motivation a little differently. Dr. Russell A. Barkley refers to ADHD as a “Motivation Deficit Disorder”. We have to learn to work WITH our neurodivergent brains. QUICK TIP: ADHD brains get big motivation boosts for urgency. Use this to your advantage! Timers and body doubles are your best friend. Sometimes having someone there to hold you accountable is all you need. You can also try to plan out and visualize your time and tasks for the week. It makes it harder to put something off when you can visually SEE how it will put you behind.
